The Fiberistas

THE FIBERISTAS

The Fiberistas, individually known as Diane, Judy & Rosemary (The Constant Knitter) have joined forces to teach all levels of knitters, whether to cast on or bring your needles to the next level.  The Fiberistas are taking a stall at the The Crafty Market on Sunday 7th March from noon to 5pm.

Diane has been turning fiber into handspun yarn with her drop spindle since 2005. Come visit her at the Crafty Market to see how fiber turns into your own designer handspun.   She will have a selection of KoolAid dye packets and fiber to purchase.

Judy is totally passionate about knitting being driven by textures and colour.  She specialises in felting and will have samples of her work at the Crafty Market to inspire you to pick up your needles and get knitting. In addition, she runs a range of knitting classes in Delgany, Co Wicklow.

Rosemary is The Constant Knitter and will feature her line of Garnstudio yarns.  Also take a look at her selection Artesano, Manos del Uruguay, Irish and sock yarns. Feel the difference between Alpaca, cotton, and linen yarns.

Bring your knitting, get yourself a coffee and join The Fiberistas for a while either knitting, spinning or felting.  Or if you would like to learn any of these crafts, we will be giving demonstrations and will be happy to teach allcomers.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Directions to the Crafty Market is linked here.

Hands documentaries

I’ve just seen that Irish Design Shop, www.irishdesignshop.com, Bow Lane East (just around the corner from Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre) is selling a series of DVDs called Hands - documentaries on traditional Irish crafts and lifestyles where the emphasis is on the skills of human hands rather than on machines. These were made by David & Sally Shaw-Smith between 1978 and 1991. Topics include Wool Spinning, Irish Patchwork, Irish Lace, Irish Embroidery, Donegal Weavers, Irish Spinningwheel Making etc.

My version of the Modern Quilt Wrap (Mags Kandis)

November 18th, 2009

is a scarf because I used Garnstudio Alpaca (I had about 26 colours to choose from) and 3mm needles and I’m now wondering if I should add another line of patches to the side to make it a wrap. Or make it longer to make it more of a scarf. Or both. It now measures 106cm X 26cm (42″ X 10″) and consists of 36 patches. I started off with 450g and still have a little over 200g left now that I am nearly finished the last patch. I think I’ll add another 12 patches along the side and then just keep adding to the length until I run out of wool. I have decided not to edge it as I like the slightly raggedy look, even if not intentional!!

Some new Garnstudio goodies just in …

November 12th, 2009

Delighted to announce some new yarns and fabulous new colours in existing yarns. New in is Angora Tweed, 30% angora and 70% merinowool, knitted on 4mm needles. This is well supported by Garnstudio.ie free patterns. Also we’ve got some new colours in the Alpaca, Eskimo, Merino and the really luxurious Silke-Alpaca.

In the next few days, we’re expecting even more colours in existing yarns, including some great value linen at only €5.15 for 50g (120m).

And for the first time, there will be some Garnstudio buttons (above). Hope you like them!
